About Laura

Laura & Pancho Villa

Just like my father and grandfather, I have always LOVED animals. In my lifetime I have been guardian to a pug, German shepherd, miniature pinscher, Maine coon cat, parakeet, rescued hamsters and rats, an adopted king snake, tropical fish, a rehabilitated green tree frog, and many foster dogs.

Currently my spouse and I have two rescue dogs. Winston is a funny little fuzzy pug mix and Abby is an adorable Alaskan klee kai (aka mini husky).

I have volunteered with Homeward Trails Animal Rescue in various capacities since 2008. From decades of pet-sitting, five years at a top-rated dog daycare, four years in local holistic pet retail and thousands of hours of volunteer work, I have experience with rescued and nervous animals, tending to various health and behavioral issues, and administering medications (oral, topical and injections).

I am a Certified Professional Animal Care Provider through PACCC (Professional Animal Care Certification Council) and I am American Red Cross Pet First Aid Certified.

In addition to a great deal of dog and cat care knowledge, I have education and experience in the care of rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, chinchillas, ferrets, hedgehogs, rats, mice, parrots, parrotlets, conures, cockatiels, parakeets, canaries, finches, tropical fish, goldfish & koi, hermit crabs, frogs, snakes of all sizes, various lizards, land and water turtles & tortoises, miniature horses, goats and even raccoons!

I offer dog walks in the College Park and Hyattsville area.

I provide dog daycare and boarding in my North College Park home for dog-friendly dogs. We have two large fenced yards (front & back). Dogs are welcome for cuddles on the couches and beds (unless you prefer otherwise), and the large bay window sill is a favorite spot for outdoor views. Dog beds, toys and chew things are abundant in every room (unless anyone is too excited by them to play nice). Dogs are separated for feeding and when unsupervised. Most of our guests are content to retire to a crate for some rest. Some who find crates too stressful can be gated in a bedroom or living room.

I also do in-home pet-sitting visits for dogs, cats, birds, small mammals, reptiles and fish. Light house-sitting tasks are included, such as bringing in mail & packages, switching lights on & off, opening/closing blinds, watering plants, putting trash cans out for collection, emptying dehumidifier, etc.

Add-on services (for a small fee & only in conjunction with other pet care services) include pet taxi, pet supply delivery and light grooming (bathing, nail trimming, brushing, ear cleaning, tooth-brushing).
